Moses Lake, WA - November 25, 2024: The Port of Moses Lake Commission is pleased to announce the unanimous approval of the 2025 budget for $17,176,157. The Port of Moses Lake's 2025 budget strengthens the Port’s role as a key economic engine and demonstrates the Port’s ongoing commitment to sustainable economic development and job creation for the residents of the Port District and beyond.
The Port plans to allocate capital for key capital projects slated for 2025. These projects will be paid for through grants, revenue bonds, tax dollars, and surplus cash. The Port does not plan to borrow money for these projects, leaving borrowing capacity unchanged.
Stroud Kunkle, Port Commission District Two, said, "As a key component of the Port's financial strategy, we have increased our bank balances over the past few years, earning interest at favorable rates. This positions us to deploy capital wisely when the time is right."
Projects carried over from 2024 include the west airport apron rehabilitation, equipment shed midfield of the airport, a community development sidewalk, and bringing the rail project to completion. Projects for 2025 include an electric car charging station, southwest hanger development utility loop, and final design for upcoming reconstruction of Taxiway G.
Darrin Jackson, Port Commission District One, said, "This budget not only supports our mission for 2025, but also emphasizes our commitment to completing the rail project, a project that will enhance connectivity, facilitate smoother transportation of goods, and boost local businesses in the Port District."
Once adopted by the commission, the Port budget becomes the work plan to be accomplished during the next calendar year. The annual operating and capital budgets are a forecast of expected resources and the purposeful distribution of those resources.
Kent Jones, Port Commission District Three and current Commission President, said, "A significant amount of effort was dedicated to crafting this budget to ensure continued integrity and management of port funds and responsibilities. Our sincerest appreciation to the exceptional team of professionals here, committed to preserving the Port District's legacy and role in ongoing economic development."
