History of Larson Air Force Base

Summary

As Larson Air Force Base closes, and the end comes to military control of its facilities, those who served here can look with pride to the record that they have helped establish. The people who served at Larson were among the best that the United States Air Force had to offer. Larson has always been commanded by leaders who have had the foresight to look forward and lead their personnel and instill in them the devotion to duty and country that is necessary to fulfill the mission of the Strategic Air Command and the United States Air Force.

Larson has served under many commands since its founding but has never failed to uphold the proud tradition of the United States Air Force. Now that it is to be closed, Larson AFB as a military installation will soon be forgotten, but its accomplishments and contributions are recorded in the historical archives of the Air Force and will long be remembered.

As the colors of the 462d are once again placed in retirement, possibly for the last time, and the units that served here at Larson are dispersed to other bases, it can be remembered that, as the 462d Bomb Group fought with honor to attain peace during World War II, the 462d Strategic Aerospace Wing guarded and preserved that peace by maintaining one of the greatest strategic deterrents to aggression in the world.

It is a proud record of accomplishment!
